Cool It For A Cause: Donovan’s Auto Is Giving Back This May

Cool It For A Cause: Donovan’s Auto Is Giving Back This May

At Donovan’s Auto & Tire Center, giving back to this community has never been an afterthought.

So when we had the chance to launch Cool It For A Cause this May, a program that supports local veterans and service members, it felt less like marketing and more like honoring that legacy.

Why This Cause Hits Close to Home

When Fox 19 asked Dane Donovan about the inspiration behind Cool It For A Cause, the answer was simple and honest: our grandfather and the founder of Donovan’s, Don Donovan, was a veteran. He fought in World War II as a Marine, came home, and built this business from nothing. Donovan’s has been a fixture in Cincinnati auto repair ever since, and that foundation of service has never left us.

There are a lot of veterans across this country, some doing well and some who have fallen through the cracks. Any time a company can step up and contribute to the men and women who have given so much, that matters.

Cool It For A Cause is our small way of saying thank you.

What Is Cool It For A Cause?

Throughout the month of May, any customer who brings their vehicle in for an air conditioning service at any Donovan’s location will receive complimentary Freon, up to a $50 value, at no additional charge. On top of that, 10% of all AC service proceeds this month will be donated to The Barracks Project, Inc., a Cincinnati-area nonprofit dedicated to supporting veterans and active service members.

Nobody likes to be stuck in a hot car as summer approaches, and this is a chance for Cincinnati drivers to take care of a real car maintenance need while also doing something meaningful for the people who have served our country. That combination matters to us.

The program is available at all three full-service Donovan’s locations: Pleasant Ridge, Blue Ash, and Norwood.

Schedule online or give your nearest shop a call.

About The Barracks Project, Inc.

Founded in 2016 by Felicia Huesman, The Barracks Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating entirely on volunteer labor. There is no paid staff, which means 100% of every donated dollar goes directly to the veterans, service members, and families it serves. The organization’s mission is straightforward and powerful: “Supporting the Lives That Fought for Ours.”

The Barracks Project provides transitional and temporary housing, emergency financial assistance, and care packages for deployed and stationed service members. What began as a grassroots effort to combat veteran homelessness has grown into a comprehensive support network making a real difference in the Greater Cincinnati area.

When we learned about the way The Barracks Project operates, the parallels were hard to miss. An organization that puts its mission ahead of overhead, that earns trust by actually delivering on its promises, is the kind of organization we want to stand behind. That commitment to integrity mirrors the values we have built Donovan’s on for over 60 years.

Part of a Longer Tradition of Giving Back

Cool It For A Cause did not come out of nowhere. Every October, Donovan’s participates in Give the Girls a Brake, a Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign in which local auto repair shops collectively donate to the Karen Wellington Foundation. The program offers customers free brake pads or shoes with every brake job, while directing a portion of proceeds to support women battling breast cancer in the Cincinnati area.

To date, those combined efforts have raised over $100,000.

The spirit behind both programs is the same: we are a mechanic in Cincinnati, yes, but we are also a member of this community.

Auto repair in Cincinnati is what we do. Being a good neighbor is who we are.

Donovan’s also offers additional year round perks for veterans and first responders as a continued expression of that appreciation. Ask any of our team members at our Pleasant Ridge, Blue Ash, or Norwood locations for details.

Why Your AC Deserves Attention This Time of Year

Beyond the charitable angle, there is a real practical reason to think about your AC right now. Before the Cincinnati summer heat sets in, it is worth making sure your air conditioning system is working the way it should. A properly functioning AC system is not just a comfort issue. For families with young children, pets, or elderly passengers, it is a safety concern.

Common signs your AC may need attention include:

  •       Warm or lukewarm air blowing from the vents even on max settings
  •       Unusual smells when the AC is running
  •       Reduced airflow from vents
  •       The system cycling on and off more than normal

Our experienced technicians at Donovan’s will inspect the full system, check refrigerant levels, and make sure everything is in working order before the real heat arrives. Whether you come in for an AC check as your regular car maintenance routine or because something does not seem right, we will give you an honest, upfront assessment with no guesswork.

Come In This May

If you have been looking for a mechanic near me in the Cincinnati area and you want your service to mean something beyond the transaction, this is your month. Bring your vehicle in for an AC service at Donovan’s Auto & Tire Center, get your complimentary Freon, and help us support The Barracks Project. Every dollar adds up.

Donovan’s has been Cincinnati’s honest choice for auto repair since 1958. We have built relationships with generations of families in this city, and programs like Cool It For A Cause are a reflection of what those relationships mean to us. It is not enough to just fix cars. We want to take care of the people who drive them, and the community they drive home to.
